The Greater Good

The method at which we arrive at the result, has the been a subject for debate on some of the world's highest levels. Are we truly affecting the world's climate as humans or is the Earth simply going through changes that are part of a system we've barely scratched the surface to understand? In the end, does it matter? If a worldwide campaign is forged in order to "save the planet" and as a result we save hundreds of species, create a new 'green economy', which creates countless jobs, what's the harm in doing so

?

Cause and effect is a physical equation that is universal. So does it make sense to continue to harvest the planets natural resources in order to keep our way of life? Even if our current way of life has decimated so many of the world's animal population? Since the industrial age, man has set forth on this course of innovation, discovery, and creation. The side effects of this journey have brought about the reduction of countless creatures in the animal kingdom on a global scale. At the rate of our mining for fossil fuels we will burn out eventually and still be faced with finding new ways to survive and thrive. We have the technology to change. We have the workforce to train in order to sustain and move forward with that change. The cost of this endeavor has been a bullet point for the opposition. Still, I'm sure that the ones who are at the helm, the movers and shakers, would all agree that "you have to spend money to make money".

"With great power comes great responsibility." We're the dominant species on this blue ball floating through space. We've marveled at our inventions which have inspired us to push the boundaries of discovery. Yet we seem to lack the compassion to find smarter more efficient ways to go beyond places we've ever gone. It would behoove us to find a balance with this environment. For it is, our only one.
